La Brugière is well-placed as a base for visiting the region, where there are many museums and places of historic interest.

Bertignat is on the “Route des Métiers”, a tour of carefully selected local craftworkers and small-scale food producers.

Apart from its lively market, the nearby town of Ambert has museums of cheese and paper-making, and the steam museum also runs a scenic railway.

Parc Naturel Régional Livradois-Forez

The  Parc Naturel Régional Livradois-Forez is a vast area of beautiful forests and rolling mountains with grazing land between. It is home to a rich variety of wildlife, with many rare species. You may see red kites performing aerobatics, hear black woodpeckers and glimpse red squirrels chasing through the woods. Abundant wild flowers attract plenty of butterflies and bees. The hills are full of clear streams and springs, and in the heat of summer you are never far from the refreshing sound of running water.

The Auvergne is a region for all seasons:

    Spring the meadows are heady with the scent of narcissi and the woods echo with cuckoo song;
    Summer brings the blue of cornflowers and the joy of gathering wild strawberries along the shady lanes;
    Autumn often lingers warm and golden over the breathtaking landscape;
    Winter brings snow and crisp bright days, perfect for skiing and walking with snow-shoes before relaxing in front of a log fire.
